For some, it might be the Octagon. For others, it might be a couple of ninjas fighting it out during an attempted assassination. Still others might think of a Buddhist monk meditating on the side of a mountain. Well, that’s what we’re taking about here.
Martial arts is steeped in philosophy, whether it’s Chinese Taoism, Japanese Shinto, Confucianism, Native American tribal ideals, or even Christianity.
Yes, most arts tend to have either an inward-looking philosophy or a religion (which one hopes would be inward-looking, as well) at its core. Here, we will talk about the different philosophical ideals celebrated by the various martial arts out there, whether eastern or western, whether soft or brutal, whether internal or external.
